Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital offers basic and advanced surgery for dogs & cats in a modern, state-of-the-art operating room that’s onsite. In addition, Dr. Thad Respet has become well-known as a skilled veterinary surgeon, and routinely gets referrals from other veterinarians to perform advanced, complex surgeries. Regardless of the type of procedure, we administer pre-surgical pain management to speed healing, anesthesia, and state-of-the-art monitoring during surgery, and pain management after surgery. Once the surgery is complete, we will place your pet in a warm, quiet recovery area where our staff can watch over them as they come out of anesthesia. We offer the following types of veterinary surgeries:

  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Soft tissue surgery
  • Emergency/Trauma

Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital is one of the only hospitals in the area offering minimally invasive surgery. This is the same technique and technology offered on the human medicine side. It provides superior visualization inside the joint or abdomen. They use needle size instruments to look inside areas of the patient to remove a torn meniscus or cartilage. This technology reduces blood loss along with postoperative pain and potential for infection.

Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital is available for medical emergencies and critical care during our regular office hours. We treat everything from cuts & broken bones to poisoning, eating foreign bodies that can’t be passed, pregnant pets enduring a hard labor, and more. When emergencies occur after hours or on the weekends, we refer cases to Grand Valley Veterinary Emergency Center (www.gvvec.com). Here’s a list of emergency veterinary services we provide at Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital:

  • Blood transfusions
  • Diagnostics & triage
  • Stabilization of vital signs
  • Emergency surgeries

Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital has a special focus on minimally invasive procedures. Ultrasound is a powerful, effective, non-invasive diagnostic tool that can be used to find tumors or signs of disease, confirm pregnancies, assess the state of internal organs, facilitate ultrasound-guided biopsies, and find foreign bodies that your pet has swallowed. There are many instances where ultrasound will detect health issues that an x-ray simply doesn’t see.

Diagnostic tools are one of the best ways to figure out why your pets are not their usual lively selves. We provide a combination of on-site diagnostics and testing using a third-party lab. Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital offers the following diagnostics right at our animal hospital:

  • Blood tests
  • Fecal tests
  • Ultrasound
  • Urinalysis
  • X-rays

Digital X-rays (radiology) are a useful diagnostic tool that shows us the integrity of your pet’s organs and skeletal system (bones). At Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital, we offer advanced, digital x-ray systems for your pets. In addition, our staff is trained on how to carefully handle your pet during radiology procedures. If you’re concerned whether your pet has a broken bone or fracture, the fastest, most effective way to find out is the use of x-rays. We offer the following x-ray services for your pets:

  • Digital Dental x-rays
  • Bone & skeletal system x-rays

Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital offers a variety of pet meds & prescription refills, both on-site and through our online pharmacy. For chronic conditions that require ongoing medications for your dogs or cats, we provide access to our online pharmacy so your pet meds can be delivered to your doorstep at a competitive price. We offer the following pharmacy services:

  • Prescriptions
  • Prescription refills
  • On-site medication & online pharmacy

(Note: By state law, we can only prescribe pet meds following an exam. You must be a Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital client to use our prescription refill program.)

At Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital, we’re on a mission to promote preventive medicine for pets because there are so many benefits to initiating preventive care for your pets. When you deploy a series of consistent exams and a blood test each year, it helps catch medical conditions in the early stages where your pet has the best chance of recovery. In the process, it costs less, too. We offer the following wellness & preventive care veterinary services:

  • Physical exams
  • Blood tests
  • Analysis of changes from one year to another
  • Consultation on meds, nutrition, exercise & other treatments needed to prevent disease and add to your pet’s longevity
  • Prescriptions
  • Prescription refills
  • On-site medication & online pharmacy

(Note: By state law, we can only prescribe pet meds following an exam. You must be a Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital client to use our prescription refill program.)

Dental Care for Dogs & Cats

Recent medical research shows that pets with dental infections have higher levels of bacteria in their bodies, which can lead to increased rates of kidney, liver, bladder, lung & heart disease. As a result, veterinarians focus on maintaining oral health for your pets with regular teeth cleanings and consistent dental care.  Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital provides pet dental care that can help maintain your pet’s health and literally extend their life. We offer the following pet dental care services:

  • Digital Dental x-rays
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Tooth removal
  • Coaching on home dental care for your pets

Microchipping your pets is the number one way to ensure they can be identified and returned to you if they get lost. We offer effective, affordable microchipping services, and the procedure is safe and fast, and similar to getting a vaccine. A tiny implant the size of a grain of rice is inserted under your pet’s skin typically near the shoulders. This tiny implant will emit a frequency only when it is close to the microchip scanning device, and it will present a number tied to your pet’s information in a microchipping company’s database. Once the chip is inserted, we will initiate your pet’s account online, and complete the contract information for you. After that first year, you will need to  pay a modest fee each year to continue the coverage. We offer the following microchip services:

  • Microchip insertion
  • Microchip scanning

A consistent schedule of vaccinations helps protect your dogs and cats from preventable diseases like parvo, distemper, Bordatella, rabies, and more. Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital offers vaccination services. We will send reminders to you when vaccinations need to be updated. We also provide a convenient Customer Portal, where you can log in and check the status of your pet’s vaccines, and other important pet health information.

One of the simplest ways to maintain your pet’s health is through good nutrition. Quality pet food is the first step. Then, if your pet develops a specific condition that requires special nutrition, “nutra-ceutical” pet foods with formulations that address medical conditions should be considered. For example, nutra-ceutical pet foods are available for weight management, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and kidney disease. Nutritional consulting services we offer include:

  • Blood tests
  • Food allergy counseling
  • Pet food recommendations

The number one way to help get a handle on animal overpopulation is to get your pets spayed or neutered. Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital offers both procedures. As part of this surgical procedure, we use anesthesia, pain management strategies, and provide caring oversight of your pets before, during, and after the procedure. We offer the following procedures:

  • Spays (for female pets)
  • Neuters (for male pets)

For dogs & cats who are going to travel out of state, or out of the country, Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital provides exams and pet health certificates. This helps ensure that your pets can travel safely with you, and with a minimum of hassle. If you’re planning out-of-state travel with your pets, contact us to schedule an exam and health certificate.

One of the most difficult decisions a pet parent will ever have to make is determining when it’s time to let an ill, injured, or senior pet go. For pets with terminal illness, we offer an array of hospice services. For those pets ready to cross the rainbow bridge, we offer peaceful, humane euthanasia.

If you have a senior, ill, or injured pet that needs hospice care, pain management, or humane euthanasia, please call or schedule a visit to discuss options & what’s best for your pet.
