Holiday Pet Emergencies

We want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday weekend. We will be closed both Saturday and Sunday. (April 20th & 21st)

As we get ready to celebrate Easter this weekend, please remember that your pets will be curious about all that the holiday has to offer.  Please help them maintain a safe distance by putting items out of their reach.  Did you know that during the week of Easter, historically calls to the pet poison helpline, relating to dogs having ingested chocolate, increases by nearly 200%.  We all know that chocolate is bad for dogs but did you know that certain types are more toxic then others?  As a general rule of thumb, the darker and more bitter the chocolate, the higher the danger is for your fur-children.  Bakers and dark chocolate poise the greatest risks.  The chocolate chemical toxicity can result in an abnormal heart rhythm, diarrhea, hyperactivity, seizures, vomiting and even death.  If you suspect that your dog has ingested any type of chocolate please consult a veterinarian or pet poison helpline immediately.

If you experience any pet emergencies please call the Grand Valley Veterinary Emergency Center at (970) 255-1911 or the ASPCA Pet Poison Helpline at 1-888 426-4435.
